International Day of Women of African Descent on the 25th of July in Valencia, Spain

In the framework of the International Decade for people of African descent (2015-2024), we celebrate the International Day of Afro-Descendant Women on the 25th of July in Valencia, Spain!

We will present the short film Black or Latina by his producer Karent Hinestroza followed by a discussion with women in media and human rights defenders will analyze the human rights situation of women and girls of African descent in Spain.

Karent Hinestroza is a renowned Colombian actress who since 2013 has received numerous awards for her performance in film, theatre, television, including the best leading actress from the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences of Colombia.

Through Black or Latina, she aims to show the low representation of Afro-descendant women in the audiovisual media and share a more complete picture of the Latin American diaspora with respect to its ethnic diversity.

We will also have a musical performance with African percussion of the "Mabele Percussion and African Dance Group".

The participants in the event will also have be able to visit our photo exhibition "Resilience in the Sahel: women's rights" in the same Center of Carmen Contemporary Culture, until July 31st.
